Actor, Poet, Writer

AL HAFIZ is a Singaporean Malay graduate from Nanyang Technological University, obtaining an Honours degree in English Literature with Minors in Creative Writing and Drama Performance. He has since developed his works in different platforms such as writing, drama education and spoken word poetry.  With an interest in cultural and world dramaturgy, he received training overseas in Maori Haka, in Peking Opera Jingju, and in Balinese Topeng Pajegan

A fluent bilingual, he has performed in notable English and Malay productions such as ‘Where Are You?’ (W!ILD Rice), ‘Family’ (The Second Breakfast Company), late Kuo Pao Kun’s ‘Mama Looking For Her Cat’ (Paper Monkey Theatre) and ‘Cerita Cinta’ (Akulah BIMBO SAKTI) to name a few. In addition, he has done Movement pieces such as ‘An Anatomy Of A Heartbreak’ (The Kaizen MD), ‘Prosecuting The Husband’ (Nam Hwa Opera) and ‘Flower Nymph’ (Cake Theatre).

Linguistically, he has written poems and prose published in anthologies such ‘Sacrosanct #1’ (Math Paper Press) and ‘Petua’ (Basheer Books) to name a few. His works has been featured in The British Council and The Israeli Embassy in Singapore (“2065”), as well as at Narrative Frames’ Press Play and the National Library Board (“Singapore’s Next Top President”). In addition, he has performed his spoken word poems in locally known venues like Blu Jaz Café and The Arts House Singapore.
